Ask Yang why he feels qualified to run a city, when he couldn’t even grasp how a VAT actually works. A VAT is specifically designed to NOT tax businesses in order to avoid double taxation (which would be worse!). The very pass through rate he linked to on his VAT page outright showed a near 100% pass through on standard rated goods and services. It was only by including lesser rated, and zero rated, goods and services, that the pass through rate dropped. Yang ignorantly took that to mean businesses paid half or more of the tax, when it actually meant that nobody paid taxes on about half the stuff. The pass through study actually proved that Yang’s VAT page was almost total nonsense.
By not having giant corporations actually pay into his UBI, they would have only benefited from extra trillions being spent. Yang would have had money funneling up to the very top faster than ever before. His was not at all similar to the Alaskan dividend, which is entirely paid for by corporations. Ask yourself why you keep promoting this guy. All UBIs aren’t the same. How it’s paid for is important. His VAT/UBI combo was not progressive.
