It was a tough ride on the rails for Amtrak and New Jersey Transit passengers on Monday morning with some trains canceled and others significantly delayed due to an accident in New Jersey.
Downed power lines halted all trains of the Northeast Corridor between Philadelphia and New York during the peak period on Monday, Amtrak tweet.
The issue was first reported around 6:15 am and it has been an issue all morning.
Wiring problems occurred near Edison, Tweet NJ Transit. It caused NJ Transit to stop trains between Rahway and Trenton. The limited service will operate between Rahway and NYC, The agency tweeted After 9 a.m., NJ Transit said train tickets will be honored on buses, private carriers and PATH.
Amtrak said Wiring issues stemmed from an accident: “Amtrak has temporarily suspended and modified all train services between Philadelphia (PHL) and New York City (NYP) due to a railroad power issue caused by a car accident that hit a pole at Talmage Road in Edison, NJ.”
Amtrak warned that travelers may expect delays as the morning goes on. They revealed after 9 a.m. that trains had departed from Philly and New York City. Those trains were significantly delayed with the 111 train from Philly Work 1 hour 50 minutes Late and Acela Train 2103 from New York City I’m about 50 minutes late for work.
Amtrak said other trains such as the Carolingian Train 79, Palmetto Train 89 and Silver Star Train 91 that go further than the northeastern United States did not depart as planned.
Amtrak eventually canceled the Palmetto 89 and said the Carolinian Train 79 between Raleigh and Charlotte would run while the rest of the train stayed behind.
