ASUS ROG Ally is a real product, twice the performance of Steam Deck
ASUS’ decision to announce the ROG Ally controller on April Fool’s Day was met with unsurprising skepticism. Today ASUS confirms that it wasn’t really a joke and that the ROG controller is indeed coming.
The Ally is a Windows-based console licensed to support the Xbox Game Pass library. However, this is not a cloud streaming device, but an all-in-one game console that ships a full APU like the Steam Deck.
ASUS’s first mobile game console is to use AMD Ryzen APU, which is specially designed for this product. What we can already be sure of is support for the ASUS ROG XG Mobile module, which we have described in this post. The console has a dedicated XG connector, which means it can take advantage of the most advanced gaming GPU for laptops. The only problem here is the price of the XG Mobile GPU. Currently, the latest XG external GPU is the RTX 4090, which retails for $2,000.
ASUS promises a cool and smooth “Full HD gaming” experience. According to Dave2D, it’s a 500-nit 1080p display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Not only is it brighter, but it’s also more responsive with a 120Hz and 5ms response time.

The product is equipped with a dual-fan cooling solution that is said to be quieter than Steam Deck. By measurement, it generates only 20dB of noise compared to 37dB on the valve product under load.
ASUS doesn’t confirm when the ROG Ally will launch, nor does the company share full specifications or pricing information. Dave2D has only confirmed with ASUS that the console will see a global launch and will not be limited to BestBuy in the US where it is currently listed. Prices must be “competitive”.
