Wide receiver Depo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers breaks an interference by Los Angeles Rams quarterback Galen Ramsey during the second quarter at Levi’s Stadium on October 3, 2022.

Samuel climbed 117 yards with six receptions, including an amazing 57 yards. Samuel had to stop all of his forward momentum to jump and catch the ball inside the 49ers zone before breaking several tackles en route to the final zone.
At one point during the play, Ramsey star Galen Ramsey seemed to be in the perfect position to make the intervention, but he dived into Samuel’s feet and barely slowed down his pace. Several people on social media immediately mocked Ramsey’s ‘action decision’, including Akash Anavaratan and Niners Nation’s Rob Guerrera. Many 49ers noted Ramsey’s failed attempt as well.
After the play, as first noted by @swifty_gamez90 on TikTok, Mike McGlinchy made the right tackle on the 49ers and went up to Ramsey and pointed at Samuel before pushing him away. We obviously don’t know what McGlinchey said, but it seems reasonable to speculate that it had to do with Angle’s inability to drop Samuel in the earlier play.
“Yeah, I don’t know what he was doing there,” Samuel said during his post-match press conference when asked about Ramsey trying to tackle him. “I went over to his side. He was just holding back. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ “
Ramsey has long been considered the best player in the NFL due to his unique combination of sport and fitness in coverage and the open field. However, on Monday night, Ramsey didn’t want any part of Samuel as he headed toward him.
