The big dilemma when I sit down to compile my weekly 10 Eagle stats is how many Galen Hurts stats to include.
Because I don’t want to short the rest of the team, but Hurts has been so insanely good so far this year that there are always so many Hurts stats that I can’t include.
What a dilemma!
The solution? It’s a long week, so we’re going to do one out of every week. Today we have 10 stats for Jalen Hurts Eagles, and then in a few days we will publish stats for 10 non-Jalen Hurts Eagles!
1. Jalen Hurts is the third youngest player in NFL history to lead a team to start 8-0. Hurts was 24 years and 88 days old when the Eagles beat Texas Thursday night. The only younger players to have won 8-0 are Dan Marino, who was 23, 36 days old, when Dolphin 1984 reached 8-0, and Jared Goff, who was 24, 14 days old, when they reached 8-0 2018 Rams to 8. 0. The Dolphins won their first 11 games before losing to the Chargers. The Rams lost to the Saints the following week.
2. Hurts is also only the sixth under-25 player to win 10 consecutive starts, joining Dan Marino, Ben Roethlisberger, Duck Prescott, Peyton Manning and Lamar Jackson. 3. Hurts has 18 touchdowns – 12 passes, six lunges – and only two interceptions. Only six quarterbacks have 18 TDs and two or fewer interceptions eight games per season: Tom Brady (32 in 2007, 24 in 2015), Aaron Rodgers (24 in 2020), Patrick Mahomes (23 in 2020), Drew Brees (20 in 2018), Roman Gabriel (21 in 1969) and Russell Wilson (20 in 2019). Hurts is only the 10th quarterback in NFL history with two or fewer interceptions and a completion rate of over 68 percent after eight games.
4. With his current streak of 138 consecutive pass attempts without interception, Hurts now averages an IQ of all 55 pass attempts in his career — ninth in NFL history among quarterbacks who have thrown at least 500 career passes. Hurts beat Nick Foles (one attempt every 52 attempts) for first place in Eagles history. Not far from Carson Wentz (one in 50) and Donovan McNab (one in 48).
5. Hurts fought four straight games with 25 or more pass attempts and no interceptions, which tied the Eagles’ record. Wentz, Foles, McNabb and Gabriel also had four-game streaks with no interceptions. Only Brady has a longer stream streak, with seven consecutive INT-free games.
6. Hurts completed 52 percent of his passes as a rookie and 61 percent last year, and he’s now at 68 percent. Only two quarterbacks in history have completed 52 percent of their passes as starters and have earned 68 percent or better at any time in the rest of their careers. Bernie Kosar was at 50 percent as a rookie with Brown in 1985 and 68.5 percent in 1995 with the Dolphins, Alex Smith was at 50.9 percent as a rookie in 2005 and 70.2 percent in 2012, both with 49ers.
7. Hurts averages 12.4 yards per achievement and one interception every 50 passes in his career. He is the only player in history to have thrown at least 500 career passes, averaged 12.4 yards per achievement and one international IQ every 50 or more attempts. Mahomes is closest (12.3, IQ every 62 attempts). ,
8. Hurts goes for 4,339 yards, 25 touchdowns and four interceptions along with his 68.2 percent accuracy. No quarterback has scored these numbers in any season. Even turning those numbers into a 16-game season, she gets 4,083 yards, 24 TDs and four interceptions along with 68.2 percent, and no QB has reached those numbers in a 16-game season. These are purely passing statistics and do not take into account any hasty numbers.
9. Through eight games, Hurts completed 35 of 53 passes in third or fourth down for 467 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. His third- and fourth-place passer rating is 119.0, the third-highest in the league behind college teammate Tua Tagovailoa (146.1) and Mahomes (123.1).
10. Hurts now has 12 career matches with a passing rating of at least 100. This is the most in Eagles history for a player in his first 27 matches. The previous highest high was 10 for Nick Foles, and Sonny Jorgensen with nine. Only 13 QB has more games rated 100 lanes before their 25th birthday. Hurts doesn’t turn 25 until August, so he could start 11 again when he was 24.
