Fortnite now shows how many people are playing Battle Royale – and every other island

Fortnite’s The Discover tab, which lets you choose from Epic Games modes like Battle Royale or experiences from non-Epic creators, now shows how many players are currently engaged in any given experience. The change has been officially rolled out Wednesdayand could be an important tool for creators to benchmark their work against official Epic modes.

You can see the player count in the Game Discovery tab, which represents the global number of players in a match at any given time, says Epic spokesperson Dan Walsh. the edge. Based on what I’ve seen, it’s pretty clear that Epic’s Battle Royale and Zero Build (the no-build Battle Royale introduced last year) Significantly More common than any experiences made by non-epic creators.

Here’s what the player looks like on the Discover tab.

Right before this story was published, Battle Royale was hovering around 343,000 players and Zero Build at around 255,000 players, but the highest I could find for a non-Epic experience was around 22,000 players. That experience was by far the exception; The post in the “Popular” section of Discover had player numbers in the thousands, and many in other parts of the catalog only had triple or double numbers.

The vast majority of playtime on Epic’s own creations is consumed by the two Battle Royale modes. By my calculations, Battle Royales had just under 600,000 players when I was playing it, while the rest of the trials in the “By Epic” row added just over 108,000 players. It’s really no surprise that Battle Royales are the most popular – Epic puts a lot of work into keeping them fresh – but now we have to prove it.

So far, there have been no public metrics for determining how many people play on a Creator Made Island as opposed to an Epic Island, so these numbers will be important as Creators try to figure out how they measure up in Epic’s new “Creator Economy 2.0” world for Fortnite. Under the new system, Epic will pay 40 percent of the Fortnite’s Creators net earnings based on participation in “islands” (Epic’s word for in-game experiences), but Epic will also receive money from this pool to cover the game’s development costs.

The new metrics also put Epic on par with Roblox, which also displays the number of players while browsing the available trials. This allows us to make some interesting comparisons – when they come true RobloxThere were apparently about 449,000 people playing through the platform’s most popular experiences, Brookhaven RPwhich is over 116 thousand people who were playing Fortnite’s Premium Battle Royale mode. The number of players across platforms isn’t just an apples-to-apples comparison, I think Brookhaven The number still represents just how big it is Roblox He is.

(The number of players is not the only one Roblox-Like the side in FortniteBy the way: Roblox It also has a discovery tab, and roblox.com And fortnite.com It’s pretty much filled with rows of different experiences that you can learn more about right from those home pages.)

I think Epic’s choice to increase transparency with the number of players is a good one. Epic has talked big game about wanting to get more creators involved FortniteThis small shift may make the platform more competitive. We’ll have to wait and see if the creators can really make something that lives up to Battle Royale’s popularity, but at least we’ll now be able to keep track of that.
