Mickey Joseph of Nebraska arrested on suspicion of assault

The Lincoln Police Department said Mickey Joseph, who served as the interim head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers for nine games this season, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of choking and third-degree domestic assault.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were dispatched to a home on a domestic disturbance call. After the investigation, officers arrested Joseph, 54, at a separate location and booked him into the Lancaster County Jail.

Joseph was placed on administrative leave by Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts on Wednesday.

Former Nebraska quarterback Joseph was named interim coach after the Cornhuskers fired Scott Frost on September 11. Saturday.

In Rowell’s inaugural press conference Monday, he credited Joseph and the Nebraska staff for the way they finished the season. Joseph’s amended contract after he became interim coach stated that he would return to his role as wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator and assistant coach if someone else was named the team’s permanent coach. The contract states that Joseph will be entitled to his original purchase if he is not kept without cause.

Prior to Nebraska, Joseph spent five years on the LSU staff. He spent two seasons as the head coach at Langston University, an NAIA program.
