You don’t often see a file Kansas City Chiefs Entirely, but that’s exactly what happened on Sunday during the team’s shock 20-17 loss to Indianapolis Colts. There was an offensive implosion, a defensive implosion, and even a special squad implosion that was actually probably the worst of all.
Offensively, the Colts defense appeared to frustrate Patrick Mahomes, who threw for just 84 yards in the first half. As Mahomes headed to the locker room in the first half, his frustrations seemed to boil over. The quarterback got into a squabble with offensive coordinator Eric Benemi, who decided to let the clock run out at the end of the half rather than try to reach the goal range even though Chiefs only needed about 25 yards to hit the ball. kick.
Despite a rough attacking day, The Chiefs still had a chance to start this game in overtime, but those chances went out the window when the Mahomes threw an objection to the game’s final offensive play in Kansas City.
The only thing uglier than the offensive play of Kansas City in this game is to play their own teams. In what can only be described as a disaster, the Special Squad Unit was essentially tasked with Kansas City. The horrific specials started in the first quarter when Skyler Moore blocked a penalty that gave the Colts possession on the 4-yard line in Kansas City.
The Colts would record a three-game lull after the disappointing throw to take an early 7-0 lead. As if that wasn’t bad enough, kicker Matt Amendola missed an extra point and a field goal, which was clearly costly in a game where the Chiefs lost by just three points. The missed field goal came from just 34 yards away.
The Chiefs’ field target team also took part in one of the day’s most unusual calls. With Kansas City facing the fourths and 11s, the Chiefs lined up with a 42-yard field goal, but Amendola never attempted the kick because Andy Reed demanded a trick and things didn’t end well.
Between the dummy field goal, the missed field goal and the extra point missed, these are seven points left by the chiefs on the field. The chief defense also made a costly mistake and we’ll talk about that below in our weekly score.
