The Seattle Mariners call up the right-hander George Kirbyone of the top potential players in baseball, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Bassan on Saturday.
Sources told ESPN that Kirby, who has been scratched since his debut with Double-A Arkansas on Saturday, will make his first major league game for the Mariners against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
The Mariners on Thursday selected a young right-handed player Matt Brash to Triple-A Tacoma, with a plan to move him into the Bullpen role for the rest of the season.
Kirby, the 24-year-old who was Elon’s 20th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, has a massive cap with excellent driving and above-average stuff, including Fastball, who averaged 97.3 mph during the 2021 season.
Some Brass Mariners have even called him the “Robot Maker” because of his excellent control.
Kirby has dominated in his five starts in the Double-A Texas League this season, going 2-0 with 1.82 ERA and 24 strokes in 24 2/3 innings for Arkansas. He could certainly provide support for the Mariners, who have 3.68 ERA employees and are in the midst of playing 16 games in 16 days.
Ranked as the 34th potential must-watch by ESPN as he enters the 2022 season.
Brach, who turns 24 next week, was 1-3 years old with a 7.65 ERA in five starts.
In other moves on Saturday, the sailors put the catcher Tom Murphy On the list with a dislocated left shoulder and a retrieved holder Cal Rally From Triple-A Tacoma.
Murphy was injured in the fifth game of Friday’s match, hitting 0.303 with a home kick and scoring nine games in 14 games this season.
