The Pixel Watch bootloader is not unlockable, but you will need to sacrifice a good USB cable

We’re going to get a custom ROM for this watch

If you are looking for a way to load your custom ROM to $350 pixel clock For a reason left by God, by all means, please. Someone else paved the way for you to do this, and trust us, it’s pretty ugly.

Most Wear OS watches can send ADB commands through Wi-Fi – we show you how to get that up and running with our tutorial at Install Pixel Watch faces on a Wear OS 3 device – but they need a solid connection when it comes to doing something as special and crazy as unlock bootloader.

Unfortunately, the only way such a connection is possible is through the four Pogo pins on the device that precisely match those on the special magnetic charging pad. The thing is, you don’t need all of these pins for power – if you weren’t aware, these pins actually do similarly to a full USB port terminal with one pin providing power at 5V, two for handling incoming and outgoing data, and another one for ground .

Shiny Quagsire on Twitter managed to cut the USB cable and find a way to connect the Pixel Watch to a computer.

This cable isn’t a pretty sight, but hey, you have to crack some eggs, right?

Anyway, our MacGyver then went through the usual steps to unlock the bootloader just like any other Android device, and now they have a Pixel Watch with an unlocked bootloader.

With the Pixel Watch kernel source out (via XDA Developers), not only ROM developers will get busy – this also opens up the opportunity for some AliExpress sellers (you know the type) to manufacture special adapters from USB to Pogo outputs.

Thanks: Torch
