Two ICRC staff kidnapped in Mali

Two staff members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were abducted in Mali on Saturday March 4, the Mali branch of the NGO announced. Twitter.

“We confirm the kidnapping of two of our colleagues this morning between Gao and Kidal”ICRC says. “The ICRC, which has been in Mali for thirty-two years, is a neutral, independent and impartial organization. “We ask that you do not speculate on this incident so as not to make its resolution more difficult.”he added.

Security crisis

Since 2012, Mali has been in the grip of a severe security crisis and violence, with frequent kidnappings of foreigners and Malians in particular. Motives for these kidnappings range from ransom demands to acts of revenge.

In February, a World Health Organization doctor kidnapped in the country was freed.
