Ukrainian forces are on alert – and now they have the main city of Kherson in their sights | world News

The Ukrainian army is on alert – they are taking advantage of the faltering Russian army, and now they have the city of Kherson in their sights.

An artillery team takes us on a mission along a path strewn with scars and debris left over from months of brutal fighting.

As we were moving quickly, we passed a recently destroyed Russian military truck.

But you can still see the load of looted goods in the back – refrigerators, freezers and other white goods.

Soon they reached the launch site about 20 km from the port and the soldiers quickly jumped into action.

Grad rockets shrieked into the sky – burning their deadly, screeching imprints toward their target.

Ukrainian soldiers continue to press after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Kremlin forces are retreating to the eastern side of the Dnipro River.

It’s a big defeat.

Thousands of soldiers may be trapped

It is estimated that there may be thousands of Russian soldiers still on the West Bank. They may be trapped.

But many of their sites – along the way we see shallow bunkers – are now deserted.

The Ukrainian fire drove them out of this area.

The Ukrainian advance is hampered by mines and detonated bridges, but here they are victorious on the southern front.

Videos on social media show soldiers in the newly liberated areas – the Ukrainian flag is on display with pride.

But even with the liberation of new places, they are still trying to understand the whole horror of the Russian occupation.

There are a lot of stories like this. The circulating evidence of war crimes is clear, says a pathologist at the mortuary where Volodymyr’s uncle was taken.

“These bodies come to us with signs of violent death – wreckage and gunshot wounds. There are many bodies.”

As more places are liberated, it is to be expected that more atrocities will be revealed, but there is still a long way to go in this battle, though victory here on this southern front may not be far away.
