Volodymyr Zelensky promises his army will capture other Donbas cities “in the coming week”.

The Ukrainian head of state welcomed Lyman’s rescue and all advances by the Kyiv military against Russian forces, promising others to follow in the coming days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that his army, which now controls the strategic city of Lyman, would seize other cities in the Donetsk region “in the coming week” from Russia on Friday.

“During the week, new Ukrainian flags flew over the Donbass”, where the Donetsk region is located, Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily address.

“There will be more in the coming week,” he promised.

Major victory for Ukraine with the rescue of Lyman

The loss of Lyman, a strategic rail hub in the region, is a major setback for Moscow, which on Friday announced the annexation of Donetsk and three other Ukrainian regions to Russia.

“They have already started attacking each other: they are looking for criminals, accusing the generals of failure…” Volodymyr Zelensky said of Russian government officials. “This is the first warning signal that should be heard at all levels of the Russian government.”

Then he spoke about Russian President Vladimir Putin: “Until you all resolve the issue of who started this stupid war against Ukraine, you will be killed one by one and become scapegoats because you won’t admit it. This war is a historic mistake for Russia.”
