A person falls to his death during a graduation ceremony at Ohio State

A person fell to his death from the bleachers Sunday during an Ohio State University graduation ceremony, according to university officials. The Columbus Dispatch reported that the fall happened around midday near where the last graduates were gathering at Ohio Stadium.

The police cordoned off the area. It was not immediately clear whether the fall was an accident or intentional, or if it involved a student or another person.

University spokesman Benjamin Johnson said in an email statement that the university is aware of the death but has no additional information to share about what happened.

Some students and others attending the ceremony were visibly upset. The beginning continued, and the speakers did not mention what happened.

“For anyone affected by today’s incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. CBS affiliate WBNS.

According to the university, 12,555 students received their diploma or certificate in person mentioned.


The university has recently dealt with the Gaza war protests that have disrupted campuses across the country. More than three dozen students and protesters at Ohio State face misdemeanor charges after the university’s Thursday night crackdown on protests over investments in Israel.
