The new version of “The Office” has been picked up for Peacock. diverse to learn.
As previously reported, the show is not a reboot of a spin-off series of “The Office,” but rather a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. For the first time since the trailer was first revealed in late 2023, plot details are now available. The official record states:
“The documentary film crew immortalizing the Dunder Mifflin branch in Scranton searches for a new subject when they discover a dying, historic Midwestern newspaper that the publisher attempts to revive with volunteer reporters.”
It was also previously reported that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the new cast, although exact character details are being kept under wraps. Production is scheduled to begin in July.
“It’s been more than a decade since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the iconic comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” said Lisa Katz, President, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the world of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a new setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”
Greg Daniels, who developed the US version of “The Office” for television, is co-producing the new series with Michael Koman. They both serve as executive producers alongside Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who created the original British version of the series, as well as Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas. Universal Television is the studio.
Daniels opened a writers’ room in January 2024 to begin work on the remake of the hit NBC sitcom, which ran from 2005 to 2013. American “The Office” was set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and followed the employees of a paper company. Dundler Mifflin. It starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms, Mindy Kaling, and PJ Novak, among others. The show maintained its popularity long after leaving the airwaves and found new life when it became available to stream.
