An unusual accident. On Saturday, May 4, a vehicle violently crashed into the gates of the White House in Washington DC (USA), local police announced this Sunday. The person behind the wheel was found dead.

“Declared dead at the scene”

On Saturday evening, at 10:46pm local time, or 4:46am on Sunday, a phone call came in reporting an accident.

“An adult was pronounced dead at the scene,” police services said on their X account (formerly Twitter).

“The vehicle struck the security barrier surrounding the White House complex,” they said.

“No threat” to White House

In a press release, U.S. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the vehicle was traveling “at a high rate of speed” when the crash occurred.

However, he assures that there is “no threat” to US President Joe Biden’s residence.

“Safety protocols were implemented while (police) officers extricated the vehicle and attempted to rescue the driver who was pronounced dead,” the spokesman said.

An investigation has been initiated. It is carried out by the Secret Service and, in the case of a fatal accident, by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. The deceased has not yet been identified and the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
