Bungie warns of a ban on trying to play Destiny 2 on Steam

Destiny 2 cannot currently be played on Steam Deck, and those trying to get around the restrictions may be banned.

in update for His support page In order for Destiny 2 to coincide with the launch of Steam Deck, developer Bungie said the game is not supported on Valve’s new portable device or any device that uses Proton, Valve’s Linux solution for playing Windows-compatible games.

Destiny 2 can be installed but not run on Proton, and according to the page “Players who attempt to bypass the incompatibility will face a ban from the game”.

Bungie notes that Destiny 2 can work if “Windows is installed and running,” but that’s not currently possible on Steam Deck. As we noted in our ongoing Steam Deck review, Windows can be installed, but due to the presence of an unreleased graphics driver for the device’s GPU, it cannot run effectively.

We added: “Almost every problem is due to the fact that Steam Deck runs by default on Valve’s SteamOS – a custom version of Linux that can run a lot of Windows games using a program called Proton.

“It’s really, really cool when it works, but a lot of the popular games, including Fortnite, Halo Infinite, Destiny 2, and Lost Ark use anti-cheat systems that are incompatible with Proton.”

This means that players are currently unable to play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck without making modifications, and as Bungie explained, it’s probably not worth the risk.

Steam Deck had other teething issues after its launch on February 25, such as stick drift issues and the most important current game in gaming, Elden Ring, not working very well, although both have already been addressed by Valve.

Overall, IGN stated that “the Steam Deck is a well-designed device that feels good to hold and play”, but “not the smooth user experience” we were hoping for.
