Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic in the men’s final

Novak Djokovic is looking to win his third major title in 2023 and the 24th of his illustrious career. Standing in his way at the All England Club is top seed Carlos Alcaraz, who is chasing his first win at Wimbledon and second Grand Slam overall.

After Djokovic won the first set 6-1, the second set defined the kind of back-and-forth action expected from this nascent rivalry. Djokovic initially fell 2-0 before falling back, with the set remaining on serve until the tiebreaker. Alcaraz had to fight back a single point from Djokovic before eventually prevailing 9-7 in a tie-break to even the match in one set apiece. He also ended Djokovic’s amazing Grand Slam streak of 15 consecutive tiebreaker wins.

10:48 a.m. ET – Djokovic charged into the net for a thrilling save to hold serve and level the second set with five.

10:25 a.m. ET – Djokovic held serve to hold the second set even at 3-all.

10:04 a.m. ET Djokovic wasted no time returning the favor, breaking Alcaraz in the third game of the second set.

9:58 a.m. ET – Despite losing the first set, Alcaraz got off to a fast start in the second, winning the first match and looking more settled in his first final on Center Court. Alcaraz lead 2-0 after Djokovic broke. This was the fourth match Djokovic had lost in this year’s tournament.

9:45 a.m. ET – Alcaraz managed to win back the match before a dominant Djokovic hit the final blow of the first set to win 6-1. Per ESPN, Djokovic is 79-1 all-time at Wimbledon when he won the first set.

9:38 a.m. ET Djokovic started quickly against Alcaraz, leading 5-0 in the first set. The Serb faced a break point in the fourth game before finally overwhelming the young Spaniard to save serve.
