Coinbase’s QR Code Announcement Proved To Be Popular Enough To Take Down The Site
Despite the flaw, the ad was well received on social media
Coinbase made its first big cryptocurrency boost during this year’s Super Bowl after the company aired a bold commercial consisting of a QR code that would float on screen for 60 seconds.
The ad also quickly flashed the Coinbase URL at the end, resulting in website Offer $15 in Bitcoin free for new customers who sign up in the next two days.

Coinbase’s announcement appears to be a hit – perhaps too much. Shortly after it aired, people tweeted that the company’s website and app had gone down.
The outage didn’t last long because Coinbase’s website expired after a few minutes, including its homepage that offered giveaway promotions along with messages like “Less Talk, More Bitcoin” and “WAGMI”.

Meanwhile, the ad itself generated a lot of buzz on social media, something an AdWeek editor undoubtedly noted would delight Coinbase’s marketing team:
Others note the ad’s very low production costs compared to a typical Super Bowl ad. One crypto commentator drew attention to Coinbase’s technical meltdown, but praised the announcement as smart and original:

The Coinbase announcement wasn’t the only crypto announcement that was aired. Rival FTX also made its Super Bowl debut with a commercial featuring comedian Larry David, during commercials by Bud Light And Turbo Tax also mentioned cryptocurrency.
