Destiny 2 is finally fixing the problem that has been plaguing players for seven years

Throughout Destiny 2's life, players have had to contend with an annoying but pervasive problem: the HUD, or Single Display. There are limitations to the way Destiny 2 uses its screen space that means it can only show you four messages about boosts or buffs at a time, even if there are more than four in effect – meaning that sometimes, You get killed because you didn't realize an important timer was running out. Bungie has teased an update coming to the HUD in its latest build This week's blog post is on Destiny, explaining how the UX and UI team updates what you see on screen. There are over 2,000 of these little status messages, from things like boss mechanics in raids to subclass actions like “Amplified” or “Radiant,” so new status messages are constantly pushing old status messages off-screen.

The changes allow more information to appear on the screen by moving some status messages to different places on the HUD. More important information, like the kind that includes a countdown to your impending death, moves from the bottom-left corner of the screen and instead appears in the middle and near the top. Meanwhile, statuses related to your weapons, such as Feeding Frenzy, will appear at the top of your power meter.

Buffs and debuffs will also have new icons that appear with messages that give you a quick idea of ​​what type of status effect you're dealing with, and Bungie has changed how certain messages are prioritized so that the most important status messages are the most prominent.

“All of our green and red augmentations now have a thick font weight at the top or bottom respectively to make them easier for color-blind players to read,” Bungie wrote. “Power-ups and buffs related to subclasses maintain their diamond shape, but more clearly indicate whether they are buff or buff in nature.”

The four-message issue has been an issue in Destiny 2 literally its entire life. Most of the time in normal content, it was fairly rare to have more than four status effects triggered, so the HUD issue did not arise truly Theme. But the four-letter issue was often an issue in high-level activities like raids, where players were almost always required to keep track of different timers and effects as part of the activities' mechanics.
