Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D’Esposito and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige are dealing with the rough patch the studio has been going through over the past few years.
“If we had stayed at the top, this would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us,” D’Esposito said in an interview with the magazine. empire. “We took a little hit, and we’ll come back strong.”
He continued: “Maybe when you do too much, you weaken yourself a little bit. We won’t do that anymore. We’ve learned our lesson. Maybe two or three movies a year and one or two shows, instead of making four movies and four shows.
D’Esposito talks about “superhero fatigue,” something Disney CEO Bob Iger admitted on today’s earnings call. The plan going forward with Marvel Studios is to release two “good movies” a year, maybe three, and cut down on the number of episodic TV series.
Deadpool Wolverinewhich stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is the only Marvel film released this year, something Feige welcomes.
“It’s nice to be able to rally behind one special project this year,” Feig told the publication. “I feel more comfortable being the underdog. I’d rather be able to surprise and exceed expectations. So last year, which wasn’t perfect, seems to have prepared us well for that.”
Marvel Studios plans to release four films in 2025: Captain America: Brave New World (February 14), Lightning (May 2), The Fantastic Four (July 25) and code (November 7).
