Australian police have announced the arrest of a 15-year-old boy. The suspect was treated for hand injuries and taken to safety after the attack sparked outrage among worshippers.

At least two police officers were hospitalized and vehicles were damaged during violent protests following Monday's stabbing attack at an Assyrian church in Sydney, Australian police said. Officers were injured as people threw “bottles, bricks and other objects”, said New South Wales State Police Senior Superintendent Andrew Holland.

The injured are believed to be between the ages of 20 and 70.

The reason for the attack is unknown.

Multiple injured in stabbing at Sydney church
