  • The creators of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” said that several stars reached out to the show to appear on the show.

  • Bruce W. Smith told Insider that Saweetie extended their hand “through the hood.”

  • Producer Ralph Farquhar said the stars have wanted to be involved since the start of the first series.

The creators of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” told Insider that rapper Saweetie was one of many stars who reached out to the revival series.

20 years after the appearance of the original animated series, Disney has revived “The Proud Family,” bringing back the original creators and original voice actors. The new series is set in a contemporary time period, but Penny Proud and her family are still about the same age as the original series.

Like the original series, “Louder and Prouder” is filled with celebrities in Guest roles as Lil Nas X, Tiffany Haddish, and Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles.

“The Proud Family” creator Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar told Insider that no celebrities have refused to be on the show in fact, many have reached out to them.

“Remember when Cardi called us?” Smith said during an interview with both creators. “We couldn’t work on her schedule. Saweetie reached out to us via the hood. There are also the Hood reps who will call me and say, ‘Hey man, this is Team Saweetie.'” They said, ‘Call if you want her to be on the show?’

Smith then mentioned that they tried to get rapper Tyga on the show to which Farquhar replied, “Tell Tyga we’re working on it.”

The creators said that the main problem was finding the right time for them in the show.

“We’ve had a lot of real estate, and we’re writing episodes faster than we can show at times,” Smith said. “There’s one really big name and that guy is still playing because he’s moving on to our next group. When we as individuals hear about something like this being made, they’ll reach out to you. So that was a good thing. We’ve had options.”

Farquhar added, “The good thing is that since the beginning of the show, people just wanted to do this show before anyone even saw a frame for anything, and luckily he kept going with Louder and Prouder.”

Kayla Pratt, who plays lead Penny, told Insider that because the audio recording was done individually, she kept trying to spot the guest stars for “Louder and Prouder.” I eventually found out with everyone else when the lineup was announced.

“I haven’t been able to meet anyone, but I’m really excited about the people we’ve already shared,” Pratt said. “I think my favorite is our newest member of the cast, EJ Johnson playing Michael. And then of course we have Kiki Palmer playing Maya.”

Johnson plays a remake of Michael from the original series while Palmer appears as an entirely new character.

Pratt added, “Then I’d love to have Tiffany Haddish, and we’d have Lizzo, and we’d have so many great artists who wanted to get involved. So I’m excited that it affected them in some way that they wanted to get involved in the reboot.”
