On “America’s Got Talent,” a great act can warm the heart—or it can stir up a few nerves.
dancer dancer El Invertebrado (Invertebrates) shocked judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum with a spooky pole-dancing style during the fourth round of auditions Tuesday night. Wearing faded zombie makeup, the 21-year-old began appearing in front of the judges’ table, scaring Klum and Mandel from their seats.
The Dominican dancer then amazed the judges and the studio audience with his lithe body as he deftly wrapped himself around a pole on stage.
“It was crazy,” Vergara said. “It was horrific and beautiful at the same time.”
While she was scared at first, Halloween queen Klum came to the horror-inspired routine.
“I have to admit, when I showed up, I peed myself a little bit,” Klum said. “Obviously, I love Halloween, so that’s right up my alley. I love you.”
El Invertebrado “AGT” had a happy ending, with the dancer receiving four yeses from the jury.
Here’s what else happened on Tuesday’s episode.
Simon Cowell compares the Warrior Squad stunt set to a ‘machine’
Indian stunt group Warrior Squad Taking teamwork to a whole new level. The group wowed the judges, earning a standing ovation with a series of high-altitude flips and complex balancing acts.
Mandel said the artists’ stunt work was a game-changer for the competition.
“When I did that four-man pyramid and turned around, being able to move that pyramid at the same time was something I hadn’t seen before,” Mandel said. “I just raised the bar.”
Cowell praised the group for its seamless onstage orchestration.
“It just blew me away,” Coyle said. “It was like a machine: every part had to work together. It was incredible.”
Warrior Squad has another chance to fight for “AGT” victory. The group recorded Four Yes.
Simon Cowell loses his voice after being insulted by a ventriloquist
Cowell’s fierce criticism finally got the best of him.
Wearing an alien mask and gloves, complete with a sausage costume, the ventriloquist unsuccessfully auditioned in front of the judges with a dummy-like doll named Poose. The doll’s high-pitched and childlike voice drew boos from the audience and earned the ventriloquist four Xs.
“This is coming from a ventriloquist,” Vergara said. “You can’t say you’re a ventriloquist when you’re wearing a mask.”
In typical Cowell fashion, the British entertainment mogul gave the ventriloquist a scathing critique.
“This is the worst action we’ve seen this year in a one-mile show,” Coyle said. “Everything about it was terrible. Even your voice was annoying.”
Displeased with Quill’s comment, the extraterrestrial Talker swore revenge on Quill. “You didn’t like my voice,” said the contestant, walking off the stage. “You are cursed, Simon.”
After the audition, host Terry Crews informed the audience that Cowell had lost his voice, which prevented him from giving oral feedback.
“My least favorite talent is mime, and now I’m working with one,” Mandel joked.
Flaming Rubik’s Cube solver amazes judges: ‘Something is going to go wrong’
Rubik’s cube solution Thomas Fu It brought a fiery feature to the popular puzzle game.
The 35-year-old contestant upped the ante on his speedy cube-solving skills by greasing himself and setting himself on fire during his act. Fu stepped onto the stage as his clothes started to burn under the intense heat. But the challenge wasn’t too hot to handle, as Vu solved the cube before it popped out on stage.
“It’s so scary it made us look at each other, ‘Oh my God, something’s going to go wrong,'” Mandel said. “But you survived, and it’s amazing.”
Klum admired Fu’s unnerving work. “I couldn’t look away,” she said. “You really are fearless.”
While Vu failed to get Vergara’s stamp of approval (“I was scared”), he did get three Yeses from Cowell, Mandel, and Klum.
“How can you say no to a guy who sets himself on fire making a Rubik’s Cube?” Klum said.
French dance troupe Murmuration wins the Golden Buzzer with a blindfold routine
French dance group nag The “AGT” stage undeniably lit up je ne sais quoi. The 65-person troupe, whose members were blindfolded throughout the entire performance, applauded the judges with pure, synchronized arm movements.
“You were amazingly in sync despite not being able to see anything,” Klum said. “It was so elegant, with so much grace. I thought it was amazing.”
Mandel gushed over the novelty of the group’s dance routine.
“I was amazed,” Mandel said. “I find it even more amazing when you get a big group of people, and the movements are smaller but perfect. It just blew me away.”
The comedian was so impressed that he got up from his seat to mimic the group’s choreography. Mid-dance, Mandel slammed the Golden Buzzer, sending a growl straight into “AGT’s” live performances.
“You’re just amazing,” Mandel told the group. “You just move me.”
