New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor service has been suspended due to Amtrak overhead wiring issues

Philadelphia (WPVI) – For the second day in a row, travelers were met with delays and cancellations at the 30th Street station in Philadelphia due to Amtrak’s general power problems.

“I’m going to NYC, and they canceled my first train, so I had to reschedule another train,” Jaden May of Indianapolis told Action News Friday morning.

On Thursday, Amtrak service was temporarily suspended between Philadelphia and New York due to general power problems near the Metropark.

On Friday morning, Amtrak reported electrical power issues again, this time near Rahway.

All Keystone Service trains between New York and Philadelphia have been cancelled, only operating between Philadelphia and Harrisburg.

Speed ​​restrictions were in place between New York and Philadelphia.

“I got a call from Amtrak that it was cancelled, and after that, I had to reschedule the train,” said Gopal Iyer of University City.

“There were some problems between the New Jersey and New York lines, and that’s how it was cancelled,” Iyer added.

“We’re going to New York, we were supposed to leave at 8:05, and now we’re leaving at 8:30,” said Gretchen Pierce of Ohio, who hoped the delay would remain minimal.

Amtrak’s overhead power problems occurred on Rahway near where the New Jersey Transit and North Jersey Coast Line’s Northeast Corridor meet.

Service on these lines has been suspended in both directions.

NJ Transit Rail Passes and Passes are honored by NJ Transit bus, private carriers, and PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, and Penn Station New York.

Some train commuters tell Action News they’ve rebooked and hope for the best.

“It could have been a lot worse than it is – but they managed to get me on another train,” May said.

For SEPTA trains, the impact was relatively small with delays of up to 10 minutes on Paoli/Thorndale Line trains traveling from the city centre. Trains coming into town were running on or close to schedule.
