Pop Smoke’s killer pleads guilty and is sentenced to four years in a juvenile treatment facility

One of the accused in the murder of rapper Pop Smoke has pleaded guilty to the crime.

The man, who was 17 at the time of the killing, confessed to the first degree murder.

The murder is believed to have occurred during a home burglary, and the defendant has also pleaded guilty to the home burglary.

Judge J. Christopher Smith sentenced the accused, now 20, to four years and two months in a juvenile treatment facility, given his status as a minor at the time of the crime. His name was also withheld throughout the trial due to this situation.

Three other men have also been charged in the death of Bob Smoke (born Bashar Barakah Jackson) after he was shot and killed on February 19, 2020, during a robbery.

Pop Smoke was only 20 years old at the time of his death.

The hitmaker has been spending time in a rented Los Angeles home that belonged to former Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Teddy Mellencamp and her husband on a four-day trip to the city.

LAPD detectives initially thought the killing was gang-related, but later determined it was a robbery that turned violent, as Pop Smoke shared Instagram posts in the days leading up to the murder that showed expensive gifts he had recently received.

The home address was also visible on at least one of the posts.

The rapper was ambushed while showering, and a struggle reportedly ensued, at which point he was whipped by one of the attackers before being shot three times in the back.

Police said a friend of someone staying at the home called 911 to report the intruders.

The rapper’s body was discovered soon after, and he was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, Pop Smoke was a rising star at the time of his tragic death early last year.

He had a string of hit singles starting in 2019, and released two hit singles, Meet The Woo and Meet The Woo 2.

The latter, released on February 7, 2020, debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 album chart, making it their first top 10 hit.

But the rapper would kill less than two weeks after the success.

LAPD Detective Christian Carrasco testified in court in 2021 that a woman who was at the home with Pop Smoke saw the robbers take his ‘big gold watch’, which they allegedly sold for $2,000.

After his murder, Pop Smoke’s debut album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon was released in July 2020 and topped the Billboard 200 chart.

It was followed by a second successful album, Faith, in July this year. It was also a number one, although both albums received mixed reviews.

Corey Walker has also been charged in the crime, along with two other men who were minors at the time.
