OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Baltimore Ravens would not be without the addition of a free agent for an extended period.
FREE SAFETY Marcus Williams Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that the Ravens will go into reserve with a dislocated wrist and miss a “significant amount of time.” Harbo added that it is not an injury at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old Williams has scored second in the NFL with three interceptions this season and leads Baltimore with five defensive passes. He’s been the Ravens’ biggest in free agency this off-season, signing a five-year, $70 million contract after five seasons as a rookie for the New Orleans Saints.
Geno Stonein the seventh round in 2020, rose to Williams’ place on Sunday night, when the Ravens took over the Bengals Joe Borough To 217 yards passing and only one perfect 20 yards away. Kyle Hamiltonthe 14th overall pick in this year’s draft, played only seven shots in the second half of Sunday, but he counts in the mix as well.
“Both [Stone and Hamilton] Harpo said: “They have their own styles, and I think they will play well for us. So I am looking forward to all these players as a team. [and] As a group, kind of filling in for Marcus’ place and not losing a step at it. “
Williams was one of the strongest defensive linebackers in the league. He only missed four games during his first five seasons. Now, Williams is the tenth player to go to the injured Baltimore reserve.
Harbaugh believes Williams injured his wrist in one of Sunday’s first two series in the 19-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
“He cleared it up,” Harbo said. “He didn’t really say much about it. So I don’t think anyone realized how serious it was until they went in and took a look at it.”
The Ravens, who has the 31st-ranked passing defense in the NFL, plays Daniel Jones and the New York Giants on Sunday.
