Nineteen players have received invitations to the 2023 NBA draft and sit in the green room, sources tell ESPN.
All 19 invited players are among the top 19 prospects in ESPN’s Top 100 Players Rankings.
Four or five more players are expected to continue receiving invites in the coming days, sources tell ESPN.
The green room is a staging area in front of the NBA stand where players, families, and authorized agents wait for Adam Silver to call a player’s name upon selection.
This year, players will be allowed to invite ten people with them to sit at their individual tables, down from five in past years.
The process of deciding who should be invited to the NBA draft involves communicating with the presidents or general managers of the selected teams throughout the first round. Teams are asked to vote on the top 25 players whose name they expect to be heard first. This is to ensure that the players do not sit too long before the national television audience as the second round approaches.
Receiving an invite is a positive sign for a player’s stock, although there have been cases in the past of prospects falling into the second round while sitting in the green room – such as Paul Ball, Deonta Davis, Nick Claxton, Maciej Lambie, Richard Lewis and others.
Jaden Hardy was named 37 last year despite being one of 25 players invited to the Green Hall.
