The painting will be shown at Fitzwilliam for three years and then loaned to the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2023 to celebrate the reopening of that institution.
During their visit, Kate and William met Coureth, supporters of the project, and Sybil Marshall, wife of the late Sir Michael Marshall, who originally proposed the idea for the painting, according to the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Koreith described the painting experience as “the most extraordinary privilege of my life” in the museum’s statement.

“I wanted to show their royal highnesses in a way that shows relaxation and friendliness, as well as elegance and reverence,” Koreith said in the statement.
“Because it is the first painting to depict them together, and specifically during their time as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the picture to evoke a sense of balance between their public and private lives. The piece was commissioned as a gift to the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
