The Red Sox is said to have showcased an all-star debut Nathan Evaldi A multi-year contract, according to Rob Bradford of WEI. However, Bradford points out that a deal between the two parties is not imminent. News of the talks between Boston and Ivaldi comes just days after the Red Sox released a qualifying bid (one-year, $19.65 million) that ties veterans compensation if he signs with a different team.
After making 32 starts (182 1/3 innings) in 2021, Evaldi has dealt with lumbar inflammation and right shoulder inflammation, which he limited to just seven times in the second half of the season. When healthy, Eovaldi shot off to a strong 3.87 ERA, hitting 22.4% of the rackets with a walking limit (4.4%). The strike rate of 22.4% represents a decrease from the rates for 2020 (26.1%) and 2021 (25.5%) but is accompanied by an increase in the global rate of 47.3% compared to 42.1% in 2021.
Eovaldi originally joined the Red Sox in 2018, and was flipped in late July by Rays for Galen Bex. He quickly made his fortune, helping the franchise win the 2018 World Championships before re-signing with Boston in a four-year deal worth $68 million. Over the course of this decade, Eovaldi has made 53 starts, playing 281 1/3 innings of 4.25 ERA baseball games with strong strike (24.4%) and walk rates (5.6%).
