Washington captain Brian Robinson Jr says surgery went well after he was shot in an attempted theft or carjacking

Robinson shared the news in a brief message on his Instagram Stories on Monday, writing: “Thank you for the prayer! God is great!”

A Metropolitan Police Department spokesman, Dustin Sternbeck, said Robinson had two gunshot wounds to his lower limbs and was taken to a local hospital. Police said the shooting took place in the 1000th neighborhood of H Street in the northeast. Sternbeck said two suspects fled the scene and officers seized a firearm nearby.

Commanders confirmed the incident in a statement Sunday evening.

“He has sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital, where team officials are on site with him. We ask that you respect Brian’s privacy at this time,” the leaders said.

Leaders coach Ron Rivera visited with Robinson, who said he was in “good spirits”.

“He wants his teammates to know that he appreciates them all for his communication with them and he loves them all and will be back soon to do what he does best,” Rivera said. He said on Twitter.

CNN has reached out to the NFL for comment.

Robinson Jr. is drafted into the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft from the University of Alabama. He did not play in the team’s pre-season final against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night.
