Meghan Markle quit her job in 2006 as a bag girl on ‘Deal or No Deal’ because she felt like she was ‘turning into a bimbo’.
The Duchess of Sussex pondered her short stint on the game show, admitting she was “really grateful” to have a job that could pay her bills but felt the role was “minuscule”.
“I ended up quitting the show. I was so much more than materialized on stage,” she said on the last episode of the podcast.models. ”
“I didn’t like feeling compelled to be all in appearance and little to substance, which is how I felt at the time I was reduced to this specific archetype: the word ‘bimbo.'”
Markle, 41, who spoke to Paris Hilton on the episode, considered studying international relations in college and riding a motorcade with a politician in Argentina and came to the conclusion that the job was not in line with her values.
“I was grateful for the job, but not for how it made me feel, and that wasn’t smart,” she said. “By the way, I was surrounded by smart women…but that wasn’t the focus.”
Markle said women would “line up” to receive eyelashes, hair extensions, filler for bras, and even spray tan coupons because the production had a “clear idea” of what they should look like.
“It was just about beauty and not necessarily about brains,” Markle recalls, adding that a woman kept telling her to “suck it up.”
Markle, now a mother of two, said she aspires to have her daughter Lillipt known for her sanity rather than her beauty.
“I want our daughter to aspire to be a little bit higher,” Markle said. “Yes, I want Lily to be educated and to be smart and to be proud of herself in these things.”
Markle appeared on “Deal or No Deal” from 2006 to 2007 before becoming a regular member of USA Network’s “Suits” in 2011. She married Prince Harry in May 2018 and left the series – and acting – altogether.
Ahead of the royal wedding of the now-residing couple in the United States, “Deal or No Deal” host Howie Mandel has admitted did not remember Markle’s time in the series.
