A man attacks several passers-by with a knife before being arrested

A man “seriously injured” several passers-by in Zoffingen, Switzerland. The police then arrested him.

A man armed with a knife injured several passers-by in the northern Swiss town of Zoffingen on Wednesday afternoon, May 15, before being arrested, police in the Aargau province said.

The identity and motive of the attacker and the number of injured were not immediately released by police.

Arrested two hours later

The man first attacked a passer-by at the station in the city of about 12,000 people, which is sixty kilometers south of Basel and about the same distance west of Zurich.

He walked away and assaulted several people before he retreated into a house.

After about two hours, the man was arrested by the police after being contacted by the special team. Police said he was also seriously injured.

The regional daily Aargauer Zeitung reported the testimony of a reader whose pregnant wife was allegedly hit by a stranger with a “metal object”. The husband told the newspaper that the woman “has a cut on her face and some swelling, but is in good condition.”

He was taken to the Aarau Provincial Hospital, twenty kilometers from Zoffingen. Police appealed for witnesses and asked people to send videos and photographs for the purposes of the investigation.
