Android Auto is getting a new Google Assistant with v10.0

Android Auto introduces a new update to its version of the Google Assistant that is more in line with the current design of smartphones, and it comes just as Android Auto v10.0 makes its way for users.

Over the past week, Google has quietly released Android Auto v10.0. The new app version doesn’t seem to bring any major updates. “Coolwalk” hasn’t changed, and Google hasn’t really introduced any new features. The last notable tweak was support for new EV-focused features, but those don’t appear to be widely available at this point either.

Something new, however, is a new UI update for Google Assistant on Android Auto.

The timing of this redesign may or may not be related to v10.0, but regardless of its source, the update sees Assistant adopt the “glowing” look it’s currently seen on smartphones. This design was first introduced in the Pixel 4 era, when Google introduced the “new” Assistant that was faster and more accurate. While this version of the Assistant is still exclusive to Pixels, the general theme has spread to the rest of the Android world.

Now, it is showing on Android Auto, at the latest from a long Google Assistant redesign font.

The previous appearance of the Google Assistant in cars was in a black bar with the Google Assistant logo turned off on the left side, and text appearing as you spoke. This new look keeps the black bar, but with the logo gone and replaced by the “glow”.

Before that, the Assistant went through a bunch of different looks, including along the top of the screen, and even in the taskbar.

We’re not sure just how widespread this new look will be, but we see it linked to Android Auto v10.0.
