Green Day fans beat the crowds, and catch a free performance outside the Harley Festival

While thousands of people packed the site of the Harley Davidson 120th Anniversary Festival in Veterans Park, others chose to stay outside and watch a free show along the lake.

Thousands of Harley Davidson and Green Day fans packed Veterans Park on Friday to hear the band headline at their 120th anniversary celebration. However, a crowd also gathered outside the festival site, while they could still watch the show from the big screen and listen to the music. WISN 12 News spoke to people gathered along the lake, near the beer garden at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center. “I think from here we can see, we can hear everything, there’s no need to actually go in by any means. I think it’s still going to be a good time,” said Casey Moore, a Harley racer who traveled to Milwaukee. From Johnson City, Tennessee. “Just to see all these Harleys in the community and see how huge Harley Davidson is, as a brand, was crazy. I’ve never seen so many bikes in one place.” Kent Rice, a member of Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Chapter One, with a group of veterans held in the beer garden Friday, asking for donations. Rice said they were able to make money from a perfect location to attract thousands of people. “We have so many veterans who have donated to us, people all over the country. New York, Washington, Virginia, everywhere. Illinois, Chicago,” Rice said. “We’ve had people give us $50.” WISN 12 News also saw dozens of boats on the lakefront to take part in the parade. “You’re within walking distance, you can hear it perfectly, commute sound, and you get a great background here,” said Julian Kegel, owner of Kegel’s Inn and operator of the beer garden outside the War Memorial. “Just watch the show for free.” Green Day headlined the festival on Friday and Foo Fighters headlined the festival on Saturday. General admission tickets and VIP tickets for this show are sold out.
