Robbie Coltrane’s career started long before his first Harry Potter The movie premiered in 2001, but for the generation who grew up with movies and books, it’s hard to separate the Scottish actor from his larger-than-life portrayal (at least for the heist) of Rubus Hagrid, the official keeper of the keys and a founding at Hogwarts.

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, remembered Coltrane for his sympathy and influence on her during filming.
“His talent was so immense that it made sense that he played a giant – he could fill any space with his brilliance,” Watson wrote. “Ruby, if one day you are as kind to me as you have been to me on a movie set, I promise I will do it in your name and your memory. Know how much I adore and admire you. I will truly miss your sweetness, your titles, your warmth, your laughter, your hugs. You made us a family. And know that you were This is for us. There has never been a better Hagrid. You made it a joy to be Hermione.”
Tom Felton, whose character Draco Malfoy was often a rival to Harry Potter, talked about how Coltrane and Hagrid were more alike in how they looked after others.

Hagrid of Coltrane often brought smiles to the audience as he found himself in comedic situations with magical creatures. But his nurturing and caring demeanor often made him likable.
“Hagrid represents the concept of unconditional love. A true friend. Thank you Robbie for bringing this character to life,” Said one fan on Twitter.
While thinking about specials on HBO Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Back to HogwartsColtrane spoke about his beloved character who lived with him.
“The legacy of the movies, I suppose, is that my children’s generation will show them to their children. So you can watch them in 50 years, easily,” Coltrane said. “I won’t be here, unfortunately, but… Hagrid will, yes.”
As Harry Potter said, “There is no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid” – and there would be no Hagrid without Coltrane.
