How does Cincinnati prepare for traffic and Taylor Swift crowds this weekend?

Tens of thousands of fans will descend on downtown Cincinnati for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour It’s the only city in all of Ohio to stop in the Eras Tour With the Cincinnati Reds and FC Cincinnati also having home games this weekend, many are wondering. How does the city prepare to receive large crowds? Over 120,000 fans will visit between Friday and Saturday nights for the shows. “I hope everyone is enjoying their time in Cincinnati, their time at Paycor Stadium and all of the Taylor Swift music,” Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn said. There will be several road closures, including Elm Street, Freedom Way and Race Street. Chief Teresa Thetage said they expected streets to be closed and congestion and suggested people arrive early to avoid delays with traffic. “This is probably one of the biggest weekends I’ve ever seen in Cincinnati in my career and I think it’s pretty cool,” Thetage said. – The take-off and meeting locations for parents dropping off and picking up people are: southbound curbside lane eastbound on Meringue Road between West Pitt Rose Way and Central Avenue, northbound curbside lane on 2nd Street between Elm Street and Walnut Street. – The place of arrival/drop-off will be at Hilltop North, located west of Paycor Stadium, along Mehring Road (look for the signs). “Traffic is going to happen; everyone’s going to help mitigate that by getting here early, if you’re trying to get a rideshare to walk a few blocks north to try and disperse the crowds,” Pureval said. Add to that all the people who are going to the Reds game. The Padres this weekend and the crowd is heading to the FC Cincinnati game, and there’s potential for a record-breaking game.” It’s historic, isn’t it? “I mean, we’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Visit Cincy President and CEO Julie Calvert. “You’re sold out two nights in a row. You’ve got a great American football stadium that’s sold out. And FC is playing here this weekend. Sold out crowds. With the Cincinnati Reds and FC Cincinnati also having home games this weekend, many are wondering how the city prepares for large crowds.

More than 120,000 fans will visit between Friday and Saturday nights for the shows.

“I hope everyone is enjoying their time in Cincinnati, their time at Baykor Stadium and all of Taylor Swift’s music,” Bengals Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn said.

The Merchandise Show runs Thursday at Racing Street from 10am to 7pm and noon on Friday and Saturday.

Cincinnati police are preparing to get as much visibility as possible downtown this weekend. Deploy SWAT and Special Teams for added security and maintain safe traffic flow.

“Get down early, avoid crowds, and that will be the easiest way to ensure people get downtown quickly and safely,” said Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval.

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Thetage said they expected streets to be closed and crowded and suggested people arrive early to avoid delays in traffic.

“This is probably one of the biggest weekends I’ve ever seen in Cincinnati in my career and I think it’s amazing,” said Thetage.

Special drop-off locations for parents to drop off and pick up people are:

  • Eastbound South Pier Corridor on Mehring Road between West Pete Rose Way and Central Avenue
  • North Sidewalk Walk on Second Street between Elm Street and Walnut Street

Hilltop North, which is west of Paycor Stadium, will be along Mehring Road (look for signs).

“Traffic and congestion are going to happen; it’s going to help everyone mitigate that by getting here early, if you’re trying to get a walk a few blocks north to try and disperse the crowds,” Pureval said.

Add to that all the people going to the Reds and Padres game this weekend and the crowd heading to the FC Cincinnati game, and there is record-breaking potential.

“It’s historic, isn’t it? I mean, we’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Visit Cincy President and CEO Julie Calvert. “You sold out for two nights in a row. You have a sold out Major League Soccer stadium. And FC plays here this weekend. You have sold out crowds. An event is a great center so it’s everywhere.”

One of the central themes is that you come up with a plan.

“Having that plan, not just a parking plan, but, you know, an alternate call plan, a meet-up plan, a safety plan. If you’re talking to young kids, make sure they remember all those crowd safety tips,” said Tracy Schwegman of Banks.
