France to supply Scalp long-range missiles to Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday, the first day of a NATO summit, that France would supply Ukraine with long-range Scalp missiles. We have decided to supply Ukraine with new missiles capable of deep strike.Macron said as he arrived at the summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. “I think it’s important for us today to send a message of support for Ukraine, NATO solidarity and determination that Russia cannot win this war.”he added.
The Storm Shadow cruise missile called Scalp by the French military, which is being jointly developed by the UK and France, is air-launched. It has a range of more than 250 kilometers, more than any other weapon supplied to Kyiv by the West. The missiles are capable of long-range strikes, reaching areas in eastern Ukraine controlled by Russian forces.
Paris will follow London in its decision to offer guided air-to-surface missiles that would allow them to strike stationary targets at long ranges. France has so far rejected this offer because of the risk of using missiles on its border with Russia.
