Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, where it received an 11-minute, 40-second ovation after the credits rolled at the Grand Theater Lumiere.
The three-hour film is the first chapter of a planned four-part series directed by and starring Costner, who was showered with applause along with his co-stars including Sienna Miller, Alejandro Edda, Jena Malone, Abby Lee, Georgia MacPhail, Ella Hunt, Isabelle Fuhrman , Wassie’s boss, Luke Wilson and Costner’s son, Hayes Logan Costner.
Costner waved to the audience and seemed humbled by tonight’s applause. “There’s no place like here — I’ll never forget this,” he told the crowd in brief remarks. “i did it [movie] …It’s not mine anymore, this is yours, and I realized that the moment it was over.
“I feel very lucky, very blessed,” he said, then added after a pause: “There are three more.”
Horizon: An American Epic – Chapter One It’s scheduled to hit theaters on June 28 via Warner Bros., with the sequel following on its heels on August 16. Costner recently told Deadline Chapter 3 Production begins this month.
The film, which returns Costner to the Western genre, tells the story of the expansion of the American West before and after the Civil War. It is between the Native Americans who saw their lands being colonized and those who were determined to settle there, sometimes at any cost, that history is written.

Costner has been very busy since landing in Cannes. The film has finished selling in international territories here, while Costner, after completing a photo call for the festival earlier Sunday, was presented with the French Order of Arts and Letters by French Culture Minister Rachida Dati in a ceremony that came complete with a hat tip.
