Kirby Smart updates the status of Darnell Washington, and other injured Bulldogs

ATLANTA – When you play a football game like Georgia did on Saturday, you’re going to get some bumps and bruises. Georgia knows this, as the Bulldogs saw a number of players go down Saturday night with injuries.

Darnell Washington left the game in the first quarter with a left ankle injury. He did not return to the game and Smart said he did not know if it was a high ankle sprain.

“He tried to get back in and he couldn’t get her back in. The good news is he got more than a normal week,” said Smart. I know he will do everything in his power to get back. He is heading west towards where he is from. It will be important for him to try to come back.”

“We’ve got some good wides, too, and they’ve got a chip on their shoulders, and they want to play,” Smart said. “They’ve got the quarterback who can get the ball. A lot of those guys have been able to come back. It was really my committee when you look at it. You see Aryan, A.D., Ladd, all these guys are in the passing game for us. Marcus made big plays.”

Georgia also suffered a number of injuries on the defensive front. Chazz Chambliss left the game with a knee injury he suffered on special teams. Robert Bale left the game apparently with a hamstring injury. Bell was walking alone as he walked out of the locker room.

The Bulldogs saw Marvin Jones Jr. and Yalon Walker play more snaps with Bell and Chambliss injured. The Bulldogs are already without Nolan Smith, who tore his pectoral muscle against Florida.

Defensive end Michael Williams has left the game several times with what appears to be a contraction issue. He was able to return to the game for Georgia.

“We had some guys who were immersed in the game. We wanted to play Trezmen and Rian and Marvin had to play,” said Smart. “At one point, we had our third and fourth players on special teams who hadn’t played all year. We’re at a point in a long season where you build up, and you have to play a lot of players who may not have played.”

Georgia will get two more days of rest before their next game, as the Bulldogs take on TCU in Los Angeles on January 9. The Horned Frogs pulled off a 51-45 win over Michigan on Saturday.
