It’s been nearly a month since Aaron Rodgers said his intention is to be the Jets’ starting quarterback in 2023, but Rodgers has remained on the Packers’ roster because the two teams haven’t reached a trade deal yet.
Packers president Mark Murphy shed no light on when that might change when he spoke to reporters before a five-day tour of Wisconsin to promote the team. Murphy said he expected to be asked about Rodgers a lot on that tour and that he expected to “say no update” over the course of the trip.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and Jets GM Joe Douglas have been talking, but there’s no set timeline for ending things, Murphy said when asked if the team wanted the deal done before the draft begins in two weeks.
“This is something for Brian Works on. I participated actively. “There’s really nothing else to say,” Murphy said via ESPN.com’s Rob Dimowski.
Murphy noted that his first tour of Wisconsin after joining the Packers was the same year that saw Brett Favre traded to the Jets and closed his comments by saying he “hopes Jordan Love turns into a similar quarterback” to Rodgers for once. The final conclusion in this trade is between the teams.
