Rachel Maddow Announced that she will go to a weekly schedule hosting MSNBC‘s The Rachel Maddow Show Only on Monday nights starting in May.
The rotating hosts will fill in for the rest of the week, and there are no immediate plans for a replacement host at this time, according to a network spokesperson.
Madhu said on her show Monday, when she returned from a two-month hiatus to work on special projects, including a movie version of Ha man bag Podcast and book.
Since she signed a new deal with MSNBC and NBCUniversal last year, there have been reports that she plans to scale back her schedule. She has hosted the show since 2008 and has been MSNBC’s highest-rated personality, but is said to have wanted to get away from the rigors of the week’s schedule. But due to her absence, viewership for that watch has declined compared to the same period last year.
Madhu told viewers that she will continue to host Monday through Thursday this month, and will also return to cover special events.
When she announced her hiatus in February, Madhu indicated she might take another one.
But she said on her return on Monday, “One of the things that surprised me is that I actually don’t need another gap. That was great. But I think I only needed one. I still have these other irons in the fire, all these other things that I work on.” which I want to achieve.”
The once-a-week format will be a test to see if Maddow’s presence at the start of the week helps keep viewers on for the rest of the nights.
Al Velshi filled Maddow’s show several nights during its hiatus, but the network hasn’t indicated the hour’s long-term plans. Madhu said she was “really grateful, really grateful that he steered things so brilliantly while I was away, I kind of feel like I have big shoes to fill to come back, given the good work he’s been doing.”
MSNBC recently changed its morning and late evening arrangement, as Stephanie Ruhley moved from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., hosted by Brian Williams The last word Until his departure in December. A fourth hour of Morning Joe filled the 9 a.m. slot.
