Tennis legend Roger Federer responded today, Thursday, to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s letter to him, after the 20-times Grand Slam champion retired from the sport. Federer, who announced his retirement earlier this month, played the 2022 Laver Cup farewell match, a doubles match alongside rival and longtime friend Rafael Nadal. Kohli, in a video released by the ATP, called Federer “the greatest of all time”. Federer took to his official Instagram account to respond to Kohli’s video message.
“Thanks @virat.kohli. I hope to be in India soon,” Federer captioned Kohli’s video message on his Instagram story.
In his video message to Federer, Kohli also praised the Swiss maestro’s tremendous contribution to the sport.
“Hi Roger. It is a great honor for me to be able to send this video for you, and I congratulate you on your phenomenal career which has given us so many beautiful moments and memories. I personally had the opportunity to meet you at the Australian Open in 2018, something I will never forget in My life. One of the things that stood out to me even while watching you play, is the fact that so many people around the world, not just in the tennis world, support you and support you and that kind of unity that I’ve never seen for any individual athlete. It is created, and it cannot be created in any way,” Kohli said in the video.
