You will see more shade in certain places. Our largest buildings have been upgraded from last year with new air conditioning systems,” Martinez said. They are also asking people to prepare for the heat. “Drink water. You’re allowed to bring unopened plastic water bottles. Even before you step onto the fairgrounds when you’re at home, make sure your clothing is lightweight and light-colored,” said Darla Givens, Cal Expo spokeswoman. EMTs will be on standby to deal with any heat-related illnesses but Givens says it’s important to keep an eye on those in your own group. “Check each other out. Check each other out. If you start seeing some looking a little peaked or stop sweating. Let’s get in. Let’s cool off. Watch your body,” Givens said.
