Cormier, Wayne’s longtime classmate and mentor, was also called to work on Saturday and barely made it to the cage before Howes started yelling at him.
“You picked the wrong pony!” Howes cried at Cormier. “Yes, dog. You know what I’m talking about. I’ll calm down and then next week you can fight me.”

Cormier verbally responded to Howes, and referee Herb Dean eventually entered between them to ensure the altercation did not turn bodily.
“I don’t choose to fight,” Cormier said in response. “Be respectful. You didn’t beat me. I don’t fight.
“Look what happened. Why do I want this fight? You can do better than that, don’t do it.”
Cooler nodded in the end, and Hawes returned to Cormier to shake his hand; “I apologize” to the former UFC Second Division champion, he added.
It’s not clear why Howes sought a showdown other than Cormier’s close relationship with Wayne, who suffered a brutal TKO loss in the fight in Texas.
While they were yelling at each other when the fight was over, Cormier composed himself and interviewed Howes after his victory without further incident.
