Nashville reporter inadvertently interviews Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson, asking him if the NHL draft lottery was rigged

This week is huge for the Chicago Blackhawks and the General Manager Kyle Davidson. Chicago won the 2023 lottery and will start Wednesday night’s draft with a suspected generational talent pick, Conor Bedard.

You wouldn’t know it if you saw Davidson being interviewed on the streets of Nashville by a local hockey site. Davidson went completely unacknowledged and feigned ignorance of hockey while asking questions about the sport.

Great content.

To be fair Penalty Box RadioDavidson is the youngest GM in the NHL, and the look he’s sporting in his back hat certainly doesn’t hint that he’s the man behind one of the league’s original six franchises. But that doesn’t make this any less hilarious.

The first question asked of “Kyle from Chicago” is to assess his hockey knowledge.

“I haven’t played professionally or anything so maybe like all four [out of ten]Davidson said. “A fan of sports. I don’t know, some people say I don’t know much.

Then Kyle from Chicago is asked to name as many hockey players as possible in 20 seconds. Davidson shakes up nearly every Blackhawks’ 2010 championship team roster and brazenly adds Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno after acquiring the two from the Boston Bruins in a trade earlier that day.

“Yeah, a huge Hawks fan,” Davidson replies when the interviewer comments on his surprising mention of Brian Bickle and Michal Roseval.

Davidson also didn’t have any suggestions for improving the game when he was asked to come up with something. “Um, I don’t know,” he began. “I think it’s pretty cool. I don’t really have a specific change. I love the game. The love is where it is. I love the guys that are in the game. It’s all good for me.”

All of Davidson’s previous hoaxes somehow topped the final question the interviewer gave him of whether or not the league had rigged the Chicago lottery.

“No,” Davidson said before looking directly into the camera. “I am very confident.”
